9th and 16th of August 2003 On the 16th we played to a smaller crowd and thankfully had a cooler night at the same venue, but still had the same feel-good factor. Could be we've at last found a venue for our sound in our home town.

18th November 2000 The Leas appearance was followed by a couple of down to earth gigs at Gee's bar and
the Neptune - we played well enough but they were sparsely attended.

Another good night at the Louis Armstrong The pub was full and nobody seemed to leave 'cos of us. Plus our (relatively) new material went over well - Ewan said I could quote him on that, so I am!
Surprised at how good a time we had at the Louis Armstrong . Familiar faces were few on the ground, but a nicely full pub really got into our sound and we had a great night. Nice to see some young people enjoying the heavy stuff.
We hijacked our gig at the White Lion to throw Rich a surprise party and loads of his old friends turned up - some of them surprised themselves by how much they got into the Rock. The landlady, Debbie, did us proud with a great buffet and Samm made rich a tasty cake in the shape of a red "Flying V" guitar. Much Rock, much drink - truly a night to remember.
A fun night at the Louis Armstrong . Thought it was going to be a quiet night as a lot of our regular crowd had appointments elsewhere, but a good crowd turned up and made plenty of noise (or maybe that was me). In fact the evening was enlivened by seeing some new faces, some of whom had travelled from as far as Margate to lend us great support. Plenty of drink, plenty of rock - eeeeeexcellent.
Another great night at the White Lion Thanks to all who gave us such good support and helped make a night to remember.
A couple of excellent gigs at the White Lion in Cheriton Where the new management seem to have really turned the place around. The charity gig on the 9th of august, organised by the Heretics bike club in aid of a young boy who is losing his eyesight, was a big success. I understand they raised around a thousand pounds. It was also a personal success for us as we played very well, and stretched our repertoire since the band due to play after us didn't turn up and we had to cover for them. Glad to say we were able to play for nearly two and a half hours without having to repeat a song - still had a load of numbers we didn't do so we're well set for material! All in front of a big audience on the hottest day of the year.
a cool night at The Louis Armstrong , plenty of friendly faces and we seemed to play as well as we have in a long time
at The Star Inn we started the year in fine style - thanks to all those who gave us great support, particulary the guys who spent over two hours on a train for what should be a twenty minute ride! Respect due!
Many thanks to all those present who helped to make our last gig of the year a corker at The Star Inn , despite some early sound problems caused by me!
The Louis Armstrong was hardly crowded, but great crowd response gave us another good night at this venue
The Leas Cliff Hall . A crowd of around 600 saw three good bands with us finishing (rather abruptly thanks to the new policy at the Leas of "on the dot at 11"). John had no monitor till a couple of songs from the end (quite a problem on a big stage), and the band before us overran by ten minutes, leading to us short-changing our supporters - we only managed to play 45 minutes and had to cut a couple of songs from our set. Apologies but it was beyond our control. Anyway we seemed to play OK in the circumstances
The Chequers . Another good night here - though quiet in terms of audience we got good reaction and will be back in the new year
A hugely disappointing night at
The Mill Inn in Deal, a venue we've been trying to play for a long time.
A tiny crowd in a big pub dwindled to nothing by midway through the second set, and we we ended up practising
our lesser played numbers to the bar staff who kindly gave us good excuses for the pitiful attendance.
Hope the management there don't blame us and give us another shot. Definitely one not to dwell on or you'd just give up.
Thought we might play to an empty pub at
The Louis Armstrong in Dover. But by start time We had a good-sized crowd and went over well
Clashed badly with a major Bike rally at
The Star Inn in Ashford. But we played well enough to a small crowd
and can think of this as a blip on our record of playing to good-sized crowds at this venue
Great private do for our mate Dean's stag night at
The King Lear in Dover. We played for nearly three hours and had a great time.
The Chequers . An interesting experiment by a biker-sympathetic Landlord here - he holds bike nights every second
wednesday, and books a band. We got off to a roaring start in front of a fair crowd, but the evening took a weird turn late in the first set
when Paul broke two 'A' strings on his bass in successive songs! (Note the picture on the pics page of him playing "Hey Joe" with three strings)
Despite this we (and particularly Paul) busked through manfully. But we didn't seem to really get our groove back on track properly. Must have sounded OK though as the Landlord re-booked us,
but we are thinking hard about it. These midweek gigs are tough on working guys - I for one was shattered the following day
The Star Inn crowd were their usual welcoming selves and we played well, ending up having a rollicking good night
The Louis Armstrong was back to its best, or maybe we were back in form?
Anyway a rousing evening and a good crowd was all very enjoyable
terrible night at the
Sportsnet bar (just by the sports centre) less than twenty people - thank God some friendly faces turned up
A storming night at the
Star Inn made all the more satisfying by the amount of new faces
joining the regulars in getting into our sound.
A flawless performance by Richard made me feel quite cruel in drawing the line at
three encores, with the crowd still baying for more, but really we have to go home sometime!
Rich came to the rescue by improvising a sweet blues guitar number all on his own to send
everyone home happy. A great gig for me to sign off for a months holiday. See you all in May.
Terrible weather didn't help the size of the crowd for a blues night at the
Harp Club on Thursday.
Since the crowd was so tiny we ended up effectively playing a somewhat slovenly
version of our rock set. For my money the blues experiment at the Harp on
Thursdays looks to have failed, but lets hope I'm wrong. At least I can say
that our involvement in it is at an end. Too much hard work for too little return!
Pitiful crowd reaction at the Louis Armstrong led to us turning in a "just OK" performance.
The mostly adolescent crowd seemed too cool to applaud. That's OK, turns out I was too cool to do the encores they asked
for when they finally woke up. These things are a two-way street.
Luckily we didn't have to wait too long for a gig to raise our spirits.
We played a private birthday party for Ron Lovell's delightful daughter Jodie at Wormshill Village Hall
near Maidstone - We shamelessly plundered the food and drink, and the great audience reaction meant we probably
turned in our best two sets in a year. Thanks to everyone there for making us so welcome
Another stonking gig at the Star Inn
in Ashford -Packed full of rockers who knew their stuff. Once again thanks to the clientele and staff who make this such a great place to play.
We surprised ourselves by really enjoying our first serious Blues outing at the Harp Club Folkestone.
The crazy crowd there have a lot to to do with it but I wish someone would stop them wandering up and chatting to me mid-song!
At the start of the evening I believed we were seriously under-rehearsed. But we kept cool and professional, busking through to deserve, I believe,
the encores we earned.
An outstanding first gig of the New Year at the Star Inn
in Ashford - Three encores and it felt like we could have played all night if material,
fingers and throats could have stood it. We're back there early next month.
Many thanks to the clientele and staff who made it a great night for us.
Back at a good venue for us the Louis Armstrong in Dover this Saturday -
a quietish night but still plenty of rockers there to make us feel at home
An outstanding first gig at the Star Inn in Ashford - seems like our sort of place
and we're back there in January
The Harp club in Folkestone was back to its hectic best this friday gone
(Just what we needed after a very quiet one at the Crown)
The Crown and Anchor was very quiet again.
Even Richard playing out of his skin couldn't do much to raise a crowd of under twenty.
Another great night at the Louis Armstrong in Dover -
the reaction there shames the other crowds we play to.
The White Lion , was another odd one. It was busy,
but all the locals seem to sit outside on hot nights soaking up the traffic fumes.
We played OK again and there were enough friendly faces in the pub to make the evening
worthwhile. Not sure about further gigs at the Lion, will have to see
I don't know how the pro's do it. Singing six nights out of seven, week in - week out I mean.
We had two back to back gigs in one weekend (The Harp on Friday,
The Crown and Anchor on Saturday) and my throat was pretty raw
by the end of the Saturday night. Put it down to bad technique. In fact I actually had to
turn down a request for "Bad Penny" late on. I made a joke out of it, but I didn't reckon
I could hit the notes (never could - ha ha).
Both gigs were good in their way:
The new people at the Harp club in Folkestone
have really smartened it up and it made for a slightly more refined evening there than we're
used to at that venue, despite it being Kevin's birthday and him and his gang being in good form.
I guess a different atmosphere must be the price you pay for good wiring and aircon!
At the Crown and Anchor in Ashford it was like a private party.
Hardly any locals, just primarily our own crowd - felt kind of nice, quiet but nice.
We played well enough at both gigs, so no complaints from us.
A great night at the Louis Armstrong in Dover this Saturday -
The crowd that followed us from Folkestone really got into it,
and pulled those from Dover right along with them.
The Happy Frenchman
in Folkestone had a late cancellation this Saturday. We jumped at the chance of an extra gig - The last time we played there we rocked the joint
and earned three encores. Plus, in our experience, it always pays to do favours for pub landlords. Sadly it turned out to be a very disappointing gig.
A baking hot night and we thought we played well enough (the few friends we dragged along said the mix was fine etc. - the sort of performance that usually gets good reactions),
but the crowd seemed largely unappreciative and it all fell a bit flat. Hope it was the heat and not my singing!
A good first gig at the Crown and Anchor in Ashford,
with some nutters on a Stag night providing more entertainment than the band! Never a dull moment and the
locals made us thoroughly welcome. When you add to the mix a good-sized travelling contingent from our Folkestone
home base who joined in with gusto, a rowdy, night was bound to occur. Just glad I didn't have the prospective groom's
head the next day! Re-booked at the Crown in August, September and October and I'm really looking forward to those gigs.
It's great to have another gig in the Ashford area after our inexplicable dropping by the Fleur-de-lis.
A great night at the Louis Armstrong in Dover this Saturday - we were well received by an enthusiastic crowd
and didn't make too many cock-ups!
Another noisy, rowdy night at the Harp Club - some of my work mates turning up just about sealed the craziness.
A good time had by all.
We were looking forward to another manic evening at the Harp club and it didn't disappoint.
It's great to be able play as loud as you like and not clear the place.
The crowd were as crazy and responsive as ever, can't wait for the next one there.
Our Headline appearance at the Leas Cliff Hall was well received, with a good review
in the Folkestone herald and kind comments from all who attended. It was nice to be able to say public thanks
to Brian from Sioux promotions who organises these events but who often goes unnoticed by those who
attend - more power to his elbow I say! I've posted Emma Longman's review of the gig in the
articles page - she also has good things to say about the other bands involved.
Another crazy night at the Harp club . If I tell you a guy rode a Harley into the bar you'll think I'm making it up, but... Despite
being held up until the football finished we still played a good couple of sets and were well appreciated.
A great night at the Neptune - two encore's, unheard of in that neck of the Marsh, followed by the usual good night at the Fleur-De-lis. Re-bookings at all, check out the gig page for details.
